Yaesu Serial Numbers

As I am looking to purchase a couple of secondhand Yaesu FT-920's shortly, I thought I would look into how to decode Yaesu's serial numbers. I finally found some information from Barry W4WB.

Serial number format is YMLLUUUU;

Y is the last digit of the year

M is the month where;
C = January, D = February, E = March, F = April, G = May, H = June, I = July, J = August, K = September, L = October, M = November, N = December.

LL is the lot number (CPU is programmed by lot number & service bulletins are also referenced by lot number, not date)

UUUU is the unit number within the lot.

Example 1: A Yaesu FT-920 with the serial number 7H090150. (My apologies if this is your radio). You will need to have a rough idea what decade the radio was built.

Year: 1997
Month: June
Lot number: 9
Unit Number: 150

Example 2: A Yaesu FT-2000 with the serial number 6K010011. (Again, my apologies if this is your radio). Knowing that the FT-2000 didn't start production until 2006 then we can assume that;

Year: 2006
Month: September
Lot Number: 1
Unit Number: 11
