TX3A

TX3A will be active from Chesterfield Islands from the beginning of November till early Dec, 2009. This is a simple low-band DXpedition by AA7JV and HA7RY.

We will have a strong low-band focus. Our priorities will be 160, 80 and 40 meters, in that order. We will be active on the higher bands the rest of the time.

We have decided on a new antenna configuration for TX3A. Unlike the VK9GMW antenna, which on 160 was essentially an inverted L, the new antenna is a T. The antenna coupler and controls are the same that we used on Mellish Reef. Additionally, we will be trying a new RX antenna on 160 and 80 meters.

Has it been that long?

Yes, it has been that long. My last blog was in June, how lazy am I. I haven't touched the radio since the John Moyle Memorial Day in April in which my daughter Chelsea VK4FWCC competed in.

So what has happened since June? With regards to amateur radio, absolutley nothing. All those great contests have now gone for the year and I didn't even make it into the shack.

Well, time to get my butt into gear and do something about it. My brother Steve VK4VSP is learning CW using Learn CW Online and I said that I would upgrade to my advanced licence by the end of the year. Well, that's not going to happen but I do know someone who did just that. Congratulations to Ray Crawford VK4HDX who is now VK4DXA.

Chelsea is now a WIA member and hopefully she might start seeing some QSL cards coming in.

The VK4VCC and VK4FWCC website has now been updated with a new look.

Looking at salary sacrificing for a new car sometime next year. I'm looking at the new Hyundai IX35 which will replace the ageing Hyundai Tucson. I want to install a Kenwood TMD710a as it is a 132km round trip to work everyday. I will easily do 30,000-35,000km a year just to and from work.

I still haven't purchased the HB35C from TET-Emtron yet (sorry Mark). I could possibly have the tower back up during the Christmas break. Something always comes up that requires my finances elsewhere.

A Get-Together is being arranged for VKCC members in VK4 over the Christmas / New Year break. Two locations have been put forward - (1) Ipswich owing to the concentration of members in the Lockyer Valley and (2) Brisbane Central. Depending on the day, I hope to be there.

Ok, thats about it for now. Not a lot has happened I'm afraid but hopefully I can now get more time to spend in the shack.
